If you haven’t checked out Edmodo recently, you should. They have gained over 5 million users since September and now have 8 million users. Also, they have the backing to remain a free service for Education with the backing of LinkedIn founder Reed Hoffman among others.
Now I’ve learned that they have numerous partners that are utilizing the Edmodo API to bring a variety of apps to the platform. I hear these will launch for the 12-13 school year.
I went to the Edmodo party at ISTE in San Diego and was impressed with the young vibrant staff and excited partners. They remind me of typical tech startups and certainly not the usual stodgy Educational Software companies.
I look forward to see what they do as they mature. There bottom up strategy is now augmented by an effort to get schools and districts corralled under a single domain.
