Microsoft recently published this infographic with examples for securing Azure, but these are best practices that apply to any infrastructure. To Strengthen Access Control, the single most important practice to improve security is to implement multifactor authentication (MFA). Requiring users, especially administrators to use a phone to verify the login goes a long way to protecting against a hacker using stolen credentials. To Improve Security Posture, addressing security before and during configuration and development brings a proactive approach to security. To Secure Apps and Data, encryption is the key. Files on all drives should be encrypted and all data in transit should use SSL/TLS. To Mitigate Threats, organizations of any size should be analyzing logs. The best analysis includes AI so staff is alerted of anomalies that matter.
